Knife vs. Screwdriver

Maybe I'm wrong. If I am, I'll be the first to admit it, but something tells me that I'm not...at least about this! It started simply enough...just a kind request to tighten the screw on the kitchen cabinet:

ME: "This door seems loose. Would you please tighten up this hinge screw?"

HUB: "UmmmmHmmmm..I'll get to it this weekend."

ME: (thinking to myself) Seriously? This weekend? Like, 2-3 days from now?

ME: "Oh never mind, I'll just use a knife."

I will spare you the details, but the words "garage", "tool box", "not an emergency" and "you don't do it right" were uttered. So after walking all the way out to the garage...what is it, 10 steps or something like that, I should know, I do enough laundry...and getting the RIGHT screwdriver, the hinge was tightened.

I try to be as honest as possible, at least most of the time, but if he knew just how many things, besides spread butter, that knife can do his head would probably pop off. In it's other life it can open mail, loosen/tighten screws, pry frozen chicken breasts apart, get the lid from a can out of the can when it slips in, chop ice, scrape up stuff, open the pantry lock, get tape unstuck from the roll (you know, when no one remembers to turn an edge back so it doesn't stick to itself)...I could just go on and on. What good is a kitchen utensil if it only does one thing?

Anyway...he insists that no one else uses the knife as anything other than a knife...so help me out here, people. Let me know if you use a knife for other stuff just so we can let him know that it's okay to step outside of the little teeny tiny box of right and wrong that you stay in and avoid any...ohh, wait...just let me know if you use it for anything else!

The American Idol Concert: Way Fun Seeing The Crowd: Way Funner

Yep, Yep, Yep...the concert was interesting and it is pretty weird to see all of those people that you had in your TV room for 3 months. Seems like Blake is the overall fave but people really love Lakisha. She's got new teeth and it changed her whole face...she looked amazing! And, they all sound better than they did during the competition. Guess all the pressure's off now and they are singing for fun.

Our seats were very good and the huge TV screens made it easy to see everything. Turned out great for the four of us...there were empty seats in front and behind.

BUT...one of the coolest things was the Outback Take Out Counter. Maybe I just don't get out enough, but they were serving Outback food in little paper baskets and it tasted just like the restaurant! Of course, we had to have that big ol' onion...

and then

What? Like onions and cotton candy don't go together?

There were people in AI shirts and they were carrying AI posters and wearing AI hats but we lived through it all and realized they saved the best for last! As we were walking out they were giving away...FREE POP-TARTS!! Thank goodness...that explained the giant walking Pop-Tart with the seeing-eye man. Otherwise, it would have been just downright amazing to see something like that.

All in all, a good time for a bunch of girls with a free Saturday night.

Summertime And The Living Is Easy (really?)

We are in the midst of a couple of big projects here and going through old family pictures is one of them. The Hub is scanning the most important and then sending the albums to family in CA. I came across some that just scream out "SUMMER FUN"(no video games, ipods or PSP here) so thought I'd share these with you:

My First "Show and Tell Friday"

Okay...Kelli from http://www.kellishouse.blogspot.com/ has started a Show and Tell and we have been asked to share something special to us. I have lots of things I'd like to share, but I'll start with these...some vintage kitchen stuff! All of these pieces came from The Hub's family and while he doesn't quite get why they are so special, I absolutely love them!

Look at that ginormous yelloware bowl! And it was under the kitchen cabinet filled with old grocery bags. YIKES! I rescued it in a hurry and will NEVER banish it to the bottom of any kitchen cabinet. The old Evenflo liquid measurer is the best for adding any kind of liquid to anything...no spills. (and if you have been visiting me for a bit, you already know about my kitchen skills...virtually non-existent so any help will be accepted...).

The vintage scale is from The Hub's grandparents house and who knows where before that. The biscuit cutter looks like the handle has been hand-soldered and has had plenty of use. Not by me, of course.

Here's the scale close up. The Hub's family was in and around Chicage for many years, so I'm guessing it was new when it became a part of his family. Don't you just love the font on this label?

Anyway..I have a love for all things vintage and while it seems like I tend to be more on the primitive side, the whole pink and white cottage thing is quickly working it's way into my heart! I even bought some pink Fiesta Ware while thrifting the other day..

Sure do hope that everyone had a safe and happy 4th...it rained here most of the day, but the clouds split just in time for fireworks! We had a great day! But, the fun isn't over...I'm headed out tomorrow for this:
The Hub surprised me with this fun day for our anniversary...it's just 4 of us girls and we are sure looking forward to this. Full report to follow!

Yes...I Can Keep Working!!

Wonderful! The test wasn't too bad and I am re-licensed and allowed to keep working. Believe it or not, this is a test that I have been worrying about for 2 years because I KNEW it had to be done. I always work better under pressure...that's just my deal.

And, I did reward myself with a quick trip to the 3 Star FleaMarket, but there were no great finds and they were not serving funnel cake! There was a big rain storm headed in and guess they just didn't want to take the chance. In all fairness, I didn't stick around too long. I was at one booth trying to decide which fresh peaches I wanted when I heard a guy ask, "Hey...got any switchblades for sale?". Hmmm...guessing he wasn't gonna cut up fruit, I moved on. Long story short, I heard the same guy ask the same question at two other booths, so I decided I best be movin' on. Being caught up in some Flea Market hostage situation was not in my plan for Saturday afternoon.

Next.....

I headed over to Anthony House, which is a wonderful local group that I try to frequent when I can 'cause the benefit to others is so great. I did find a couple of pieces there...and I will share those...maybe tomorrow. A small piece of PINK Fiesta was my favorite!

Even though this is a holiday week, we have some big plans. No, I didn't say they were going to be fun, but they are big. The Hub took the week off and we are (drumroll here) Cleaning Out The Garage! I mean, it is like another world out there and we have just got to get organized. We have promised each other to throw lots away (whatever I can't hide) and really get it fixed up. I've already found some things I have been thinking about..not actually missing, because I don't use them, but just thinking about. Anyway...I'll keep you posted!
